  • PROJECT SMILING FACES

Four sessions were organised by the Scholarships Committee under its PROJECT SMILING FACES for interaction of the donors with the beneficiary students.  The idea behind the sessions was to meet the underprivileged students, discuss their problems and motivate them to perform well in their forthcoming final exams.

St. Ursula Girls’ High School

A grand welcome awaited the Rotarians and Anns by the students on 16th January’16 in the flawless manner for which students & staff of St. Ursula are well known.  A very active interactive session brought forth the problems, solutions, advice and motivation with an assurance that each deserving student will be supported financially by Rotary Club of Nagpur for their studies after High School as well.  Of course, this will be subject to the student excelling in academics. Present with their inspirational spirit and pep were President Khushnoor, PDG Vishwas, PP Gulab, PP Rajan, PP Shabbir, PP Tauby, PP Bharat, Ann. Jyoti, Director Sandip, Rtn. Vikram, Chairpersons Sapna and Rajiv.

Sunshine Foundation

Nine members of Rotary Friendship Exchange (RFE) from USA joined us at Sunshine Foundation on 17th January’16.  Founder-Director, Ms.Deepti Karat enumerated the activities of the Foundation and highlighted that they have now 4 branches spread over Nagpur imparting not only additional education in computers, but also cover the school syllabus, personality development, sports etc. for about 300 students from the nearby slums, children of commercial sex workers and HIV affected children.  In addition to the registers handed over by the Scholarships Committee, our Community Welfare Committee handed over sports equipment including cricket gear, badminton racquets & shuttles, footballs, carrom board, chess board etc.

RFE members were very generous to donate $ 1,080 (Rs 73,094/-) for PROJECT SMILING FACES. The emotionally charged environment brought tears to the eyes of one of the RFE members when he announced a donation on behalf of his grandchildren in USA.

Those who joined us in this very touching session included President Khushnoor, Vice President Manju, Secretary Parag, Treasurer Rina, PP Chandru, PP Shabbir, Director Namita, Director Sandip, Rtn. Prem Gupta, Rtn. Nimish, Chairpersons Sapna and Rajiv.

Shri Guru GobindsinghHigh School

On 18th January’16, we assembled at Shri Guru Gobindsingh High School where PP Gulab, Director Sandip and Chairperson Rajiv addressed the beneficiary students with motivating talks.  The interactive session threw up various social & health problems of the children in addition to the financial ones where again our Club chipped in and assured them all possible help even in their higher studies. A student victim of polio and another one affected by juvenile diabetes (who is also an orphan) have been assured immediate help in treatment and support by us

St. Michael’s High School

The interactive session at St. Michael’s High School was similar to the ones at the other institutions.

Groups of students were formed and addressed/motivated by PP Gulab, PP Rajan, Director Sandip, Chairpersons Sapna and Rajiv. On the strength of your continuous support, we again assured help from our club to the deserving students in their current & higher academic pursuits.

An appeal to all – come and see for yourself how your presence adds yet more smiles to the SMILING FACES.  I often wonder, if what we feel when interacting with these kids is not eternal joy, then what is?
