Report for Meeting held on 17th Dec’15

President Khushnoor Chugh called the meeting to order followed by announcements for birthdays and anniversaries. Project  announcements were made and new improvements being done to the Annual pilgrimage of the Club, The Hemalkasa camp was told by the chairperson.

The main agenda of the meeting was Metro …a step towards making Nagpur a smart city.  Khushnoor welcomed Mr Brijesh Dixit, the Managing Director of Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation Ltd(NMRC),Dr Apte, PR Incharge of NMRC and Dr Chandrayan , Consultant of NMRC.

Dr Chandrayan gave a presentation on all the aspects of the Metro project. The main question in everyone’s mind was why do we need a Metro in Nagpur ? Nagpur being the largest city in Central India is witnessing a rapid economic and infrastructural development specially in the fields of IT, Education and Healthcare sector .Present use of public transport is only 9% due to absence of reliable public transport ,further  traffic congestion, pollution, road accidents, extreme weather conditions, travel time and cost are compelling reasons to have a Metro to serve the growing population spread across the city of Nagpur.  The estimated cost of Metro Rail Project with 36 stations will be Rs.8680 Crores.

He was very keen to answer all the queries posted by the Rotarians and answered a lot of questions with detailed explanations .Mr Dixit proposed that with the help of our Club we can create awareness of the project among citizens so that maximum benefit could be availed. He generated a lot of interest in everyone but because of short of time the queries had to be restricted,

Rtn Mahendra Kamath proposed the Vote of thanks and mentioned that as we remember Mr Chandrasekhar for bringing transformation in Nagpur roads may Mr Dixit be remembered for bringing such a huge change with Metro Rail in Nagpur.

Meeting was adjourned after the National  Anthem
