Forensic For Common Man

Regular Meeting: Thursday, 21st July 2011

The regular meeting was called to order by President Tauby who greeted members on their birthdays during the week. After the announcement of various projects of forthcoming week PP Vijay Naidu in his own inimitable style introduced the guest speaker to the packed audience.

Dr (Mrs) Rukmani Krishnamurthy hails from our very own city of Nagpur. She is Executive Director, Helik Consultancy Ltd. and Technical Adviser, Institute of Forensic Science Mumbai & Aurangabad. She retired as Director, Directorate of Forensic Science Laboratory, Govt. of Maharashtra. With an exceptional educational background during which she was awarded PhD in Chemistry, Mrs Krishnamurthy applied her knowledge in the field of forensics for the benefit of Govt in tackling various crimes and frauds. In her talk she explained in brief, the concept of forensic sciences. She explained the organizational structure of her department and how the department is helping police, judiciary and the common people about forensic and allied science.

She also mentioned how various branches of forensic and its technological advancement can help in solving numerous criminal and terrorist cases. She also gave many examples where forensic methods were used for conviction. With increasing cases of financial frauds she emphasized on the need of precautions to be taken by common people. During her stint she had handled many critical assignments for GoM including the Mumbai blast in 1993. It was an interesting topic which kept audience hooked and generated lot of questions for the speaker. Divya Dass proposed a formal vote of thanks. The meeting was adjourned after singing of the National Anthem.
