20TH & 21ST December, Nashik

NASHIK, the City of Temples, Godavari River, Grapes, Vineyards & so much more. This year’s Silver Jubilee District Conference “ PARVANI” was held at Nashik on 20th & 21st of December hosted by Rotary Clubs of Nashik. Venue was Gaekwad Sabhagriha, which was decked up nicely to welcome all Rotarians and giving a distinct “Rotary” touch to the gathering. Rotarians came from all over District 3030 and one could see them exchanging greetings and reconnecting old friendships!!! Governor Dada Deshmukh and First Lady Sharayu were proud hosts just like the Conference Committee Chair Dr Ajit Bhamre.

We all left by Sewagram express on 19th night and reached Nasik late by more than 3 hours, and as a result missed most of the Opening ceremony. Luckily our PDG’s Dr Satish Sule and Vishwas Sahasrabhojanee, Past Presidents Vijay, Tauby, Shabbir & Atul had reached earlier and were able to attend the inaugural session.

District Conference

It was a very well organized conference. Our Rotary Club of Nagpur team comprising of around 25 Rotarians & Rotary Ann’s attended the event. 9 IYE students also accompanied us. There were few last-minute cancellations inspite of which the spirit of our team was very high. The conference venue was like a sea of Rotarians. Almost 1500 delegates were there & the experience was fantastic.

The inaugural session was very solemn, and Swami Atmashradhanandji from Ramakrishna Math gave an inspiring speech to the Rotarians and charged them to work for the community while adhering to spirituality and universal brotherhood. He took lessons from Swami Chinmayananda’s life and explained his concepts in an easy way. Rotary International President Representative from Sri Lanka PDG Gehan Siribaddana gave his message, while congratulating the Governor for organizing a wonderful Conference. R I Director-Elect Dr Manoj Desai from Baroda spoke from his heart and pushed the Rotarians to strive for excellence, while complimenting them on a peaceful election of the Governor Nominee-Designate!!!! Dr Manoj Desai was touched by the introduction that was given by PP Shabbir and gave him a big hug!!!!!

The plenary sessions were quite interesting, each moderated by one Past Governor. Mrs Pallavi Amte (daughter in law of Shri Vikas Baba Amte), spoke passionately about Anandvan and it’s essence; Industrialist Ram Bhogale of Nirlep fame spoke on entrepreneurship & Green challenge; Shri Prakash Pathak spoke on “Sakshar Bharat” and received a thunderous applause; Mr Mark Balla came all the way from Australia and spoke on “Co-operation in Community Service” which was a sort of an eye-opener; Mr T S Madaan entertained the crowd in his address while making his points and enriched the delegates present; Shri Popatrao Pawar charged the audience with his powerful oratory on “Jal Chintan” while Shri Dhanraj Vanjari, recognized for his stint with Mumbai Police and 26/11 investigation brought the house back to school while speaking about “New Generation’s expectations” and got a standing ovation!!!!! RIPR Gehan Siribaddana connected well with the audience in his speech when he related anecdotes from his brilliant Rotary career.

The Rotary Foundation is always on the minds of every Governor, and so his “Million dollar challenge” was given a momentum with impromptu “Major Donor” and PHF donations that came like rapid fire. One highlight of the Conference was the felicitation of all Past District Governors at the hands of our Guest of honour. It took us down memory lane and surely each PDG would have gone emotional remembering his year in office. Dr Satish Sule ( 1997-98, theme :Rotary Shares) & Centennial Governor  Vishwas Sahasrabhojanee ( 2004-05, theme: Celebrate Rotary) were felicitated at the hands of RIPR PDG Gehan Siribaddana and Hon’ble Justice Vikas Sirpurkar. A  lovely and informative souvenir presenting Kaleidoscope of District highlights in each Rotary year since 1990-91  was also released at this session aptly named ” Sarva Karyeshu Sarvada”

The evening banquet was made enjoyable thanks to the “Kalyanji Anandji Nite” at the sprawling Jupiter Hotel Gardens, which saw an attendance of more than 1500 delegates. House of friendship was equally nice and one could see the sea of Rotarians with the spirits in good spirit of friendship and fellowship. The highlight of any conference is the Banquet, fellowship & the entertainment program. The food was plenty ranging from snacks to main course, but the presence of Music Director Anandji of “Kalyanji Anandji” fame and his Orchestra made a big difference. They belted out feet tapping classical numbers with some of the recent popular ones. It was certainly an evening of bonding for the RCN contingent as we had occupied one big table.

On the second day came the crowning glory; it was the performance by the 9 IYE students that was unbelievable!!!! Reciting Sanskrit Shlokas, Ganesh Vandana, dancing on temple songs as well as Bollywood numbers highlighting our rich Indian culture. Thanks to the IYE Committee and specially Rtn. Mamta & Manish Jaiswal for taking so much of effort. The concluding session had various items like few proposals to District bye-laws, incoming Governor Dr Nikhil Kibe’s invitation to next year’s “Anubhuti” Conference, and concluding remarks from RIPR Gehan and DG Dada. It finally concluded with the traditional vote of thanks and singing of the National Anthem.

Some of the members & their spouses visited one of India’s most famous Sula Vineyards. It was an amazing experience. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the Wine tasting & the visit to factory. We all returned back on Monday 22nd morning with lot of sweet memories of Parvani.

Rotarians who attended the conference were PDG Vishwas Saharabhojanee, PDG Dr. Satish Sule & Rt.Ann Dr Sunanda Sule, PP’s Shriram Marawar, Sati Khanna, Vijay Naidu, Tauby Bhagwagar, Shabbir Shakir, Atul Shah, President Bharat Goenka, First Lady Jyoti Goenka, Rotarians Kapil Bahri, Parag Paranjape, Arati Kibe, Pratap Chandarana, Mamta Jaiswal, Sanjay Sethi, Jatin Sampat, Monal Malji, Manish Jaiswal, Rt.Ann’s Mrinalini Marawar, Reeti Khanna, Vinita Bahri, Richa Sethi & Gouri Malji.
