Distribution of Neem Seed during Twinkle Club registration

July 10, 2013 divider image

Twinkle club of Hitvada newspaper is the largest children’s club in India. The annual membership drive is held first Sunday of July every year. Our club for past many years is associated with this activity by way of distributing Neem seeds. The idea behind distributing seed is to make child understand the importance of trees. Once the child sees the seed taking shape of a beautiful sapling, the joy and loyalty towards the plant is built forever. This was evident during this year’s distribution on 7th July.

The task is challenging given the fact that the membership of the club is more than 25000. Laxmikant Padole of Neem Foundation provided seeds and arranged polybags. Twinkle club allows age group of 5-15 but we decided to distribute seeds to only those kids who are in the age bracket of 5-10 to catch them young. The challenge is to procure such large number of seeds, packing them with polybag and an informative brochure. Doing it for more than 12000 within 3 days is equally daunting task. Thanks to sincere efforts of chairperson it was done smoothly. To ease the collection process of sapling we tied up with Krazy Castle at Ambazari and Vibrations restaurant near IT Park. Children can submit their 4-6 weeks old saplings at any of these two locations and can get fabulous discounts till 15th September.

On 7th July hundreds of children queued up since early morning and Rotarians too turned up for the day ahead. Despite of heavy rains in the afternoon, neither the kids not the members lost any enthusiasm. Finally the registration drive came to an end at 6pm and more than 20000 seeds were distributed to around 10000 kids. More than 70 Rotarians and spouses visited during the day and helped in conducting this enormous job. Special thanks to Director Sanjay Sethi, Manjot Singh Kahai, Manish Bhati, Chairpersons Sangita Parekh, Shalini Gupta and Parag Paranjpe for managing project wonderfully. Lets hope that large number of kids comes back with saplings and help in creating green and clean Nagpur.
