Hemalkasa – Surgical Medical Camps 2019

June 12, 2019 divider image

Opthlamic camp conducted in January at LokBiradariPrakalp, Hemalkasa, a desolate place about 350 kms from Nagpur where a total of 110 eye surgeries were conducted.

Major surgical camp conducted in February at Hemalkasa where all kind of surgeries were conducted on the very poor Madia tribals. LokBiradariPrakalp is the creation of Baba Amte now run by PadmashriPrakash Amte& his family. Our service continued for the 32nd year and we consider it a pilgrimagewhere Surgeons from the club as well as others undertake the four day trip to the deep forest interiors of Maharashtra. The process of screening for the camp starts at least 2 months in advance and patients & relatives are known to have camped in the hospital complex for few days for the team to arrive, and there is a huge exaltation when the first bus arrives. One can truly relate to the benefit the selfless service does.

Two Surgical Camps at Mahatma Gandhi Tribal Hospital, Utavali Melghat, run by Dr. Ashish Satay of Mahaan Trust, (one is scheduled for June 15-16, 2019) were conducted where Tribals are operated by the Surgeons and doctors who go from Nagpur. The Operation Theatre there was contributed by our club under Global Grant. The Surgical Camps are regularly held by the club and also used by other clubs in the district who render service to the tribals.
